Education

She grew up in the Bay Area with a mother and grandfather (a professional estate gardener) who taught her at an early age which seedlings to pull and which to protect. Her AA degree from Cañada College included certificates in Floral Design and Environmental Horticulture. At Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Horticulture and Botany.

Career

After graduation she worked in retail nurseries and managed the garden at the home of Stanford University’s president before starting PC Gardening. Taking a break to explore organic gardening and farming, she operated her own small truck farm for four years before returning to garden consulting and doing inspections of

organic farms for CCOF (California Certified Organic Farms). She obtained her license as a pest control advisor from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, and though she has since let it lapse, she stays scrupulously up to date regarding pests, diseases, laws, regulations, and new practices.

Nowadays

Working on properties ranging from 30 acres to urban backyards, Pam has developed a signature design style that both meticulously suits plants to their specific microclimates and chooses them to offer interest and focus throughout the year.

Pam lives in Anderson Valley, Mendocino County, and continues to design, consult on and manage garden estates (organically, of course!) there and in San Mateo County.
